I am on board with this. We qualify one of the highest percentages of teams to state in the country. Half of a classification or more should not make it to the State meet which is essentially the State finals. Competition breeds improvement. We have seen this in track. Sectionals has made state meet more competitive and we have seen performances reach some very elite levels. Reducing number at state XC meet could achieve similar things.

Has anyone hear how they plan to do this? Area model, Sectional XC meet, etc?
What would you want to see and how many teams?

Discussions are still very early. No decisions will happen until after reclassification happens in the fall.

16 teams at State would be ideal. How you get there might be a debate. The argument of "leaving a top 10 team at home" is already forming in someone's mind as they read this. The goal of state is to crown the champion not determine the top 10 teams.
